Lieutenant General (ret.) Frank Leidenberger, Master of Business Administration, is among the most experienced strategists of the German Armed Forces. Over more than four decades of service, he helped shape the operational and conceptual development of the Bundeswehr – from deployments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Afghanistan to the command of multinational formations.
As Chief of Staff of the ISAF successor mission Resolute Support, he was responsible for coordinating international forces in Afghanistan. Previously, he commanded the Airborne Brigade 26 and the EU Battlegroup. Within the Army’s core organization, he led the conceptual modernization and integration of multinational structures.
After his active service, he moved into the strategic leadership of the Bundeswehr’s digital transformation. Since 2018, he has been Managing Director, and since 2023, Chief Executive Officer of BWI GmbH – the central IT service provider of the Bundeswehr.
