Lieutenant Colonel (General Staff) Sebastian Hagen joined the German Armed Forces in 2003 and became an officer in the Jägertruppe (light infantry) in 2006. From 2010 to 2012, he served as a platoon leader, and from 2012 to 2015, as a company commander in the Jäger Battalion 292 in Donaueschingen. During this time, he completed deployments in Afghanistan and Mali.
In 2015, he attended the Staff Officer Course at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College in Hamburg and subsequently was assigned to the Infantry Training Center in Hammelburg. In 2016, he was selected to participate in the National General/Admiral Staff Course at the Leadership Academy.
From 2018 to 2020, he served as a staff officer to the German Military Representative at NATO and the European Union, followed by a role as an Action Officer in the International Military Staff at NATO in Brussels until 2021. He then served as a consultant in the Policy Department of the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin until 2023.
Since September 2023, he has been the commander of the Jäger Battalion 1 in Schwarzenborn, Hesse.
He completed his studies at the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg in 2006 with a diploma in Education. In 2016, he earned a master’s degree in “Military Leadership and International Security” from the same university.
He has been a member of the CNSS since 2016 and has been active on its board since 2019, currently serving as its deputy chairman.
