Medical Staff Officer OFA Dr. Benny Schulz joined the German Armed Forces in 1995 and completed his basic military service in the Panzergrenadier troops before switching to the medical officer career path in 1997.
In 2003, he graduated with a degree in Human Medicine from the University of Leipzig and initially worked as an assistant doctor for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) medicine at the Bundeswehr Hospital in Leipzig. He then served as a troop doctor in Bremerhaven and Hanover, and as a squadron leader in Celle, before continuing his specialist training in Hamburg and Hanover in 2010, which he completed in 2016. He has completed four overseas deployments: two in Kosovo (2008, 2013) and two in Afghanistan (2010, 2012).
In 2016, he was selected to participate in the National General/Admiral Staff Course at the Leadership Academy.
From 2018 to 2020, he served as a department head in the Medical Service Command of the Bundeswehr in Koblenz, focusing on operations and strategic analysis. He then took on the role of liaison officer to the Inspector of the Medical Service in Berlin until 2021, followed by a position as a consultant in the Federal Ministry of Defense.
Since November 30, 2022, Medical Staff Officer OFA Dr. Schulz has commanded Medical Regiment 1 in Weißenfels.
He earned his doctorate from the University of Leipzig in 2007, is a specialist in ENT medicine, and holds an additional qualification in emergency medicine. He has been a member of the CNSS since 2019 and has been serving on its board since 2021.
